Another issue is that sometimes these major, weighty issues may arise when you’re dealing with a different topic or don’t have much time. In such cases, it might be best to consciously make the topic smaller again, even if it was put forward by a participant.

Participant: My mind often wanders to sexual fantasies as I meditate. It’s as if whenever I start to meditate, the silence is immediately filled with desire.

Teacher: That can happen. Fantasies are thoughts too. See whether you can, as best as you can, simply be aware of them with patience and without judging them, and then, when you’re ready, return to the object of the meditation.
